So this is the latest debacle the implications of which are potentially enormous (just one simple one: the Corporation of Hamilton no longer has the income from the car park ……)
But it is the latest in a series of debacles that are seriously undermining Bermuda.
Our debt continues to escalate, we have had cost over-runs after cost over-runs, with no accountability, we have had U-turns on nationally important issues, we have a health system that is finacially challenged, debt-burdened and cost cutting.
We have politics of the playground (gutter?) in the House of Assembly which continues to live in its own bubble, we have an economy that seems to be totally reliant on international business and tourism (with no signs that any other form of revenue is being considered other than our tax base and confusion over priorities).
Then we have calls for a share sacrifice – the biggest debacle of them all.
It seems appropriate that I have written this on a Sunday, because I, for one, have lost faith.
PS: I have deliberately used some links to old stories to show that some of these things have not happened overnight.
PPS: I timed how long it took me to do write this and get the links: 23 minutes. Imagine if I, or someone else, actually spent more time. What would we come up with?
