I love this rant from my old mate David Skinner on his FB page ….
HSBC: Not your local community bank.
For over 6 months I’ve been trying to open up a small business account with HSBC for the convenience of my customers who bank with HSBC.
It took me 1 week to open up a small business account with BNTB Just walked in a branch office and picked up the form ,filled it out attached the documentation they required, Had a call from their rep. followed by a brief meeting and 5 days later, I received a phone call to say “Mr. Skinner, your busine…ss account is now open and we wish you all the best of success in your venture”.
They couldn’t have been more nicer or more helpful.
But now after 6 months of meetings, phone calls, more meetings, filling out paper work the size of a book, more emails saying they now need Tax Compliance Form, two more months waiting then more emails about now needing FATCA forms to be filled, I’ve decided to throw in the towel! You’ve won HSBC Bermuda, you’ve made it clear you’re not interested in the small Bermuda businessman. Bermuda is clearly too much of a burden for you to worry about.
So I’ll stick with the Bank of Butterfield thank you very much. Now I know why they call themselves “a community bank” and why they received Bank of the Year award in 2014.
According to their website: ‘HSBC aims to be where the growth is, helping businesses to thrive and economies to prosper and enabling people to realise their ambitions.’
