A third way?

Terry Lister was thinking about starting a third political party. I wonder how it would fare now if he tried again?

I cannot help but sense frustration at the way our politicians are behaving at the moment. Reading the blogs, listening to people, talking to friends – it seems there is dissatisfaction with politics and the way it is being conducted.

If someone was prepared to take it on, now might be the time to consider a third way…..

  1. Regrettably, they’ve never been able to get any real traction in Bermuda (and I imagine it’s a similar situation for our friends in other small countries). I remember a while ago Khalid Wasi floated a third party, then we had allegedly Terry Lister looking to spearhead one. Neither have come close to materialising. There have been smaller groups with less prominent members of the community that have floated starting one, including most recently Restore Bermuda, but for various reasons they haven’t gotten off the ground.

I suspect the combination of apathy, self-defeatism and the general outcry from the public of “you’re just wasting your vote/energy” simply leads to people picking the lesser of two evils versus actually going for that third party or Independent.

At the very least, an independent pressure group (not speaking of the People’s Campaign here) could be the future springboard. But you’d need willing, committed, energetic and thick-skinned individuals at the head.

    1. I know you are right and I did blog along those lines some months ago but …. Marc Bean is IMO a political liability, the OBA were wrong to ‘walk out’ and the feeling I get is people are fed up with all of them I sense that a third party may get some traction. It might at least jolt people into realizing that the electorate are fed up with the politics of the gutter
