So Thad Hollis has apparently resigned. I can’t say I am too surprised.
I sense there were a lot of differences between him and the party and between the party and him. I was told that the announcement of an investigation into the so-called Jetgate affair was done without full prior knowledge of the OBA.
And his report into that issue said this: “I discovered in the course of this investigation other matters of equal concern.” Yet his remit did not allow him to investigate and I sensed a degree of bitterness in those words and am assuming that he was finding things out that, as Party chairman, he should have known about.
His resignation has not been formally accepted yet, but I don’t see how the Premier can refuse it unless there is a significant compromise.
It’s not ideal for the OBA – losing one person of significance (ie Craig Cannonier) over the Jetgate affair and now another person of significance in the wake of this affair. Thad is widely respected in the community and this is a blow to the OBA.
I am sure they are struggling in the polls, and economy is not recovering quickly enough to plaster over the OBA cracks.
Who will succeed him?
