I’ve been working in the Cayman Islands so not keeping an eye on the news in Bermuda. But I did see that Mark Pettingill has quit as AG to go to a job in the private sector.
I think, whatever Mr Dunkley says, that it was a good thing for the OBA and will take some heat off the front bench. However messrs Cannonier and Pettingill are still present on the backbenches (the party cannot survive in Govt if they quit as MPs), so they will still be a target for the PLP.
Despite Premier Dunkley insisting that a line has been drawn under ‘Jetgate’, their presence as MPs will ensure it will drag on. It is a predicament for the OBA and it will be interesting to see how it is dealt with.
On another note, the appointment of Mr Moniz as the new AG means that we have yet another Health Minister – the third in the OBA term. Education, health and the economy are, in my view, the big three. We need continuity to ensure no flip flop of policies.
Again, it is another predicament for the OBA and it is time for some on the party’s backbench to step up and show they can shine as future rising stars.
