UPDATED: I’m glad this has been announced: http://bernews.com/2014/02/legal-costs-will-not-be-covered-by-public-funds/
There is so much to write about – I just don’t have the time!
But this quote stood out to me in the papers today: “The spokesman explained that the legal action was being pursued by Government rather than Mr Cannonier as a private individual because the allegations were made against him in his capacity as Premier.”
I am not a legal expert but as a journalist I do know something about libel – and I did not think you could slander a Government? You can only slander an individual (those who know better please inform me….)
If that is the case, does this also mean that Government is paying for this? It is an enormously expensive exercise, it is often the thing that stops individuals suing newspapers. Newspapers have deeper pockets and often insurance.
If Government is paying then why the **** should I – and you – subsidise legal action arising from puerile politics?
Excellent post from Catch a Fire: http://jonnystar.wordpress.com/2014/02/20/obamnesia/
