Shopping ‘lite’ in St George’s, part 2

A friend of mine suggested a couple of ideas for St George’s as we were talking about the shopping lite idea.

He suggested that the town should take ownership of two events:

1. Halloween (imagine the fun around the older parts of the town?)
2. St George’s Day. A wonderful idea – flags flying, the beer flowing, bus people in, get the Tourism Authority involved, restaurants selling traditional English food, dragon slaying in the town square…

BRITAIN ST GEORGES DAY

We already see the impact the National Trust walkabout has on St George’s – the place is rammed. Imagine what these two events could do.

I can say this, because it is not my idea – but, with a bit of planning and with some support, these two events could really, really work.

  1. As a Bermudian I can see the good idea of celebrating St George’s day there. As an ethnic Scot though I’m not too keen on the glorification of the Anglo-saint… Unless, of course, the Caledonian Society gets its act together and organises a rival St Andrew’s day festival then too! 😉
