Is it just me, or do signs of Christmas before we have even got Halloween out of the way seem a bit premature?
I am no churchgoer, indeed the only time I offer up prayers are during take-off and landing, but even to this agnostic, it seems extremely early and slightly distasteful.
The retailers will hate me for writing this – indeed when I was at The Royal Gazette I caused a huge fuss for posting a picture of a shop’s Christmas decorations on the paper’s Facebook page in October.
It incensed a few retailers and got enormous feedback, which at the time I thought those retailers ought to read and digest …… anyway, that’s a whole different story and belongs in my past.
But surely, it has to be said.
For millions of people Christmas is one of the most important times of the year. It is already so commercialized, but do we have to make it worse? Can we let (Pagan) Halloween out of the way first?
