Pie in the sky?

In the last ten days or so, three stories have made all the headlines – the Hamilton Harbour waterfront development, the apparent continued interest by Carl Bazarian in Club Med and the Khalid Wasi plan to relocate the docks.
But does anyone want to take a bet on these starting within the next decade? I will not.
I don’t want to be negative – it’s just a sense of realism.
We’ve had the hype of the past six or seven years, with SDOs granted seemingly left right and centre, we’ve had implosions, great photo ops, lots of start dates and lots of missed start dates.
After that, you cannot help to see these stories with anything other than good deal of cynicism.
Any why are we event thinking of turning the clock back to Bazarian?
Is the truth that Bermuda is a spent force when it comes to being a major player in tourism? Should we accept that it is never going to be as it was in its heyday?
Shouldn’t we settle for the tourism numbers we are getting now and make sure visitors have the ultimate holiday when they are on the Island?
